Today We Honor Martin Luther King Jr.

Our office is closed today in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Martin Luther King Jr. was a major influence on passing legislation now known as the Fair Housing Act of 1968. The Fair Housing Act is one of the major federal laws that impacts homeowner's associations across the country. It protects people from discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability and the presence of children when they are renting, buying or securing financing for any housing.

It’s Budget Season!

Many associations’ fiscal year ends 12/31 and that means it’s time to start preparing next year’s budget. If your association has a 12/31 year end, your board members can expect to receive a proposed budget from your manager in the coming weeks. Your manager will use historical data, any notices from your contracted service providers, and guidance from professionals like insurance agents and reserve study specialists to provide the board with an accurate picture of what changes may be expected for next year’s finances. California Civil Code dictates many duties and responsibilities for the board regarding the approval and distribution of the budget along with annual disclosures. Your manager will guide the board every step of the way to help make sure the board is meeting their fiduciary duty and following civil code. CAI National Conference

Last week, CAI held the Annual Conference in Washington D.C. Our executives, Nels and Bre Atha were in attendance to meet with and learn from trendsetting leaders of the community association industry from all over the world. CIS is committed to offering the most innovative products and services to our clients. We accomplish this by keeping our staff educated on current industry trends and recent legislative changes that affect our business and the communities we serve. It is our goal to provide the resources, knowledge, and guidance to the board members we work with in order to bring harmony and order to the associations they serve. Events like the CAI Annual Conference help us to achieve these goals.

CIS Celebrates International Women’s Day

Today we celebrate International Women’s Day, also known as the United Nations Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace.  “It is a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political…The Charter of the United Nations, signed in 1945, was the first international agreement to affirm the principle of equality between women and men.” (SOURCE: UN.org)

Women in Our Industry

Women are well represented in the HOA management industry as onsite managers, portfolio managers, management company owners and executives and HOA board members. Our industry would be lacking without the contributions of these women. Today we celebrate their achievements and support the progress and advancement of all women in our industry. We encourage management companies, HOA boards, industry professionals and HOA vendors to fight gender inequality by promoting diversity, closing the gender pay gap and taking active measures to prevent violence and harassment against women in their businesses and communities.

We ask that CAI continue to support gender equality and diversity in the industry with more seminars/education addressing these issues. We have also reached out to the Foundation for Community Association Research ask them to do more equality and diversity research to find out where the industry stands on progressing these values.

CAI Single Mother’s Outreach

As a member of the CAI Community Outreach Committee, Ann Borowski-Bitter (CMCA) volunteers her time to help our community. Their first project of 2018 is with Single Mother's Outreach. Here are three ways you can help us support this project:

  1. Donation Drive - Stop by our office to say hi to Ann and drop off any of the following items for donation:
    • Diapers size 3, 4, 5 and 7
    • $25 gift cards to Target, Walmart, movie theaters or grocery stores
    • Non-perishable food items
    • Toiletries
    • New, clean/stainless gently-worn clothing for women and children for their "Closet on Main" resale boutique

    • Donate to Closet on Main, a resale clothing boutique in the Santa Clarita Valley.
